Hatch was born 9 May 1830 in Farmersville, New York. His parents were Ira
Stearns Hatch (1802-1869) and Wealtha Bradford (1804-1841).
His family were
early converts to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They moved
to Nauvoo, Illinois in 1840.
Orin
served in the Mormon Battalion from 1846 to 1847. In 1850 he returned to
California with other veterans of the “Mormon Battalion” who had been there
earlier while in service, to work in the mines.
He worked in the mines for two
years before returning to Utah.
He married Elizabeth Melissa Perry 10 October
1855 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They had twelve children. He married Maria
Thompson 2 May 1856.
They had nine children. He was ordained patriarch of the
Bountiful Stake in 1899. He died in 1906 in Bountiful, Utah.
